I have to wonder if having a requirement on developers to build two or three tracks of conduit running throughout a neighborhood would be a good idea. That conduit should allow for multiple vendors to run their cables through it. Something like three 1″ conduit runs by the curb throughout the neighborhood and then two 1″ conduit runs to the house.
I think that would be complete overkill, but it would also mean that there is no scenario where the ground needs to be dug up or trenched for new cable.
I am watching contractors for Google Fiber spend multiple days digging under drive ways to run cable to my house right now. It seems like having access points that are general use to put that fiber through would make a lot more sense. I don’t know why we aren’t doing that. Is there something I am missing?
